If I had been old enough I would have vote for Ronald Regan in 1980. In the hormones of youth I believed in what old Ronny boy was selling. I thought that we needed a strong leader for the future. Gee was I blind.
Looking back I released that the seeds of the Neocon Plague we are know benign inflected with are build on the Greed is Good and Me,Me, Me and just plain selfishness of the late 70's and 80's. The selfish character of that time let most of the leaders of the Neocon to do "selfpleaseing" things (Drugs alcohol and other selfish things) during their earlier careers. Some of the founders where even "Liberals" until they decided to take a more selfish path. That same logic leads these people to do those selfish acts. To say, just cut taxes and make "Government" small enough, they can do what is "Good for them" and not have to worry about other people. This as lead to a selfishness of character for most of the Neocons that makes them says that they are the right person to decided what is good for America (They decide what is good for them and then say its good for America) and "You" (i.e. anyone who does not agree with them) have no right to question what they do. This logic leads to the Savings and Loan Scandal of the Regan years (among others).
This lead to the Regan era deregulation of most of the safety and oversight function of the Federal Government. Because those selfish people can not have that pesky Federal Government telling them they can not cook the books, (think Enron), that they should not log in Old growth forest (They feel that all that wood is just "going to waste they cannot log it and to heck any "environmental concerns"). They feel it is okay for them to do away with anything they think may cost them any more money. (Think of the California Prop 13 and ALL the tax cuts that have happened since then). That the Federal Government just wastes money so why should they have to pay for.
I know, there are reader of this who are going to buy the party line that the Neocons are selling that all the problems with America are caused by the "Liberals". (Federal waste, Drug problem, "Quote" Activist Judges" etc). If they can just takeover the Liberal media and get there message out America will be a better place. Where every man can do what they want, has long as they do not question what the Neocons and Corpate America are doing. But the simple fact is the so-called "Liberal media" is a lie. If anything it is a Corporate Media. Now I am not naive enough to think that there is no bias in media stories. But I am human enough to know that the Corporations that own the media outlet can also hold the bias. I know, I Know there are some of you who are going to say but "Todd, there is a liberal media Rush and O'Riely told me there was". I have two that to say to that, first research every story you hear and soon enough you will find that they all have a bias, wither it is a conservative or liberal bias it is there. The second is to question anything that you are told by the media. To blindly believe what you are told is what the Rush and O'Riely's of the world want. Think, if all the "Ditto Heads" as Rush called them where to think for themselves they would be no audience for Rush. That people would realize that sometimes tax increases are need and that there can be more that one solution to the problems of modern life
